We asked you about the governor's new budget plan.
Didn't we vote on the approval of the California lottery based on the fact a large portion was to go to schools, some 20-25 years ago? We were sold a bag of goods way back then. Hey, Arnold - been there, done that.. - David, Point Loma
Funding for schools should be a priority and not funded as though it were a luxury item. What is the Governor thinking? Do we need another recall? Or shall I say it like he would: Vat iz goburnur tinking? - Roxanne, Point Loma
We as consumers/citizens must learn to budget and adhere to that budget. Why doesn't the government have to do the same? - Jess
Don't sacrifice our future for spending excess today. Teachers are our most valuable asset since they are the ones that mold our future through our children. Lottery funds should be going to the schools rather than into the general fund. Cut the luxuries and fund the basics. - Ross, Penasquitos
I applaud the Governor's plan to use the Lottery. I agree that it is an underperforming resource. The alternative is to again reach into the already stretched pockets of Californians. New Jersey faced a very similar budget crisis which was all but eliminated by its lottery, so there is certainly evidence to support that the plan will work. This plan will help alleviate the deficit and allow for a permanent solution to be found. - Katherine
The first step is creating alternatives to the budget crisis and it's great that the Governor is doing that. Using the lottery bonds would be a great idea and I would also support a 1% sales tax increase. That is probably the best solution so far. - Jo, College Area
I think it's a really wrong and sad decision. The school which my child attends happens to be one of the best schools in San Diego and there are many great teachers that they are going to have to let go over the governor's wrongful decision. NOT FAIR!!!!!!!!! - Annalee, Chula Vista
I applaud Arnold's leadership on the budget issue. As everyone knows, desperate times call for desperate measures. It is good to see our elected officials realize that running at a perpetual deficit and unbalanced budget is not an option. - Mike, Normal Heights
I am actually in favor of some cuts in education if they are in the right place. The problem is not in cutting teachers, it's in cutting the wrong teachers. Due to the union, the teachers that are actually making a difference in out schools are the first ones to get the axe because they don't have the tenure. Until that broken concept is fixed and their jobs are based on performance, as well as the administrators and school boards taking pay cuts rather then cutting teachers. Nothing, no tax hikes, lay offs, Lottery Bonds, or anthing else is going to fix the educational system in this state, or this country for that matter. - Damon, Escondido
I'm not sure if the governor's proposed plans will help balance the budget, but it's a step in the right direction. Teachers deserve to keep their jobs and our children deserve to have a good education. - Karla, National City
It's time for a recall because he did not keep his promises as far as the kids go. - Rick, Imperial Beach
I'm ashamed of our government taking from children. We should always find a way for better education not worsen. How dare anyone would think to stuff 40 students per class and expect so much. This is stupid, anyone who thinks it is okay should try it for a whole year and see what it's like! - Rosa, Lemon Grove
