Is it candy or is it drugs? What household products are abused? Why are prescription drug on the raise with our teens? How easy is it to buy marijuana in your neighborhood?
PRONASA will answer theses questions and many more, as well as provide an insightful, shocking and critical presentation for parents, teachers and youth leaders interested in the latest news, strategies, solutions and resources in the fight against substance abuse.
At a time when illegal drugs are as prevalent as ever, and packaged and "marked" to our youth in more creative ways, education is crucial. Making the situation more alarming is the fact budget cuts and other factors have nearly eliminated the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) from most school programs in San Diego County. In effect, there are limited organized drug education programs within San Diego County at the middle/high school grade level. To fill the vital need of drug prevention education, the non-profit organization Proactive Network Against Substance Abuse (PRONASA) was established recently by law enforcement veterans. Every instructor is or was employed by a law enforcement agency, possesses teaching credentials and is an expert in the area of illegal drug use.
Studies have shown that children are first introduced to illegal drugs while in middle school or at the beginning of high school. Working with school P.T.As, community-based PRONASA is targeting parents, teachers and school administrators to provide education and awareness training. Early detection of drug abuse has been shown to be an effective deterrent to chronic use. Parents and teachers may be the first to see the effects of drug use, but without training would not know what was the true cause of poor grades, dramatic mood changes and health problems.
Predatory Drugs —Ketamine, GHB, and Rohypnol—, notorious as drugs used to facilitate sexual assaults, are metabolized quickly in the body, leaving little physical evidence. Victims may not be aware that they ingested a drug at all because they are invisible, odorless, and tasteless when dissolved in beverages such as sodas, juice, or liquor.
Ecstasy, Methamphetamine, GHB, Ketamine, Rohypnol, and LSD can produce a range of unwanted harmful effects, including death. And when used in combination with each other, these substances can be even more harmful.
The program, hosted by Point Loma High School and "Building Bridges Together" (Heartbeat Family Partnership), will take place:

PRONASA was founded by its Executive Director, Phillip D. Hubbs, a 30-year veteran of law enforcement who has worked extensively in the areas of juvenile, vice, gangs, narcotics and domestic violence.
During the Red Ribbon Celebration in 2005, Mr. Hubbs was the recipient of the DEA Enrique “Kiki” Camarena Award. In 2006 he received the Channel 10 NEWS Leadership Award and the “Community Hero Award” from the San Diego Padres Baseball organization.
