The Sea & Air Parade kicks off the 2008
Fleet Week events on Saturday, May 3rd at 10:30am. This flagship
event of San Diego’s salute to the military will precede the Red Bull Air Race
World Series, which begin at 1:00pm. So, come early and stay all weekend long to
see your U.S. Navy and Airforce display the various types of ships and aircraft
that comprise the world's mightiest military force.
With six warships and about fourteen aircraft,
the parade is expected to draw more than 100,000 spectators. The tentative list
of participating ships includes an Aircraft Carrier, Cruiser, Guided Missile
Destroyer, Destroyer, Frigate, Nuclear Submarine, Amphibious Assault Ship,
Amphibious Dock and Platform Landing Ships, SEAL Support Boat and other small
craft. This year promises to be bigger and better than ever with the addition of
three tall warships – The Californian, the HMS Surprise and the Privateer
Lynx.
